24th August 2011

I am now officially back in the office and my holiday is over.  I had four great days with my sister and my nephews after I returned from the USA and then left for Suffolk to stay in my parents cottage for a long weekend last Friday.  It is time to move on and Jon has come up with some great plans for a new kitchen and bathroom which I know my mother would have loved.

I am over excited at the thought of doing the property up and have picked the tiles and new flooring too so am pretty keen to get back and crack on with the work but all the clinics start in a couple of weeks and I have a fair bit of work to fit in before everyone arrives so the cottage will have to wait for a while.

It’s going to be a busy autumn with lots of travel too and if Tony is still in the States when I have completed all my commitments I will be tempted to fit in another trip to LA before the end of the year.  It was so fantastic going back and there are more friends that we didn’t have time to see so I think another trip is definitely on the cards and of course it is the perfect place to write.  Perhaps next year I will cut back on work and spend my time travelling between Somerset, Suffolk and the States writing and catching up with old friends.  Yup.  That definitely sounds like a plan.

It was hard saying goodbye to Tony at LAX but today I am stupidly happy to be back in the UK even though I look like death this morning!  It was the premiere of The Inbetweeners Movie yesterday evening and we had an incredible night.  A magical (hysterical) and wonderful night.  I left Emily and Daisy celebrating in London at the after party and have had hardly any sleep but it was well worth the late night.  Fans had cued from the early hours to see the cast and it took Emily ages to walk the red carpet. She looked absolutely stunning, the film was hilarious and the party was great.  From start to finish it was a perfect night.

NickyMy holiday continues to be perfect.  Tony and I have found a lovely little house to rent near Venice Beach and it proved to be effortless locating the property which has meant that for the most part Tony and I have had a very peaceful week enjoying each others company and doing very little.

On Saturday we did the LA thing.  Having been pretty reclusive all week we drove out to Malibu for breakfast with friends from Buffy, spent the afternoon shopping in Santa Monica, then drove up to Bel Air in the evening for a catered dinner party with the cast and writers of Tony’s new show.

On Sunday we drove back along the Pacific Coast Highway for a late lunch at the great seaCarl food restaurant The Reel Inn which is part way between Santa Monica and Malibu and spent this evening back at Shutters in the company of two great friends that I haven’t seen for years.  One was my dear friend Carl who I met through his sister on a horse training out in Montana and the other friend was Nicky who worked on Buffy with Tony.   I adore them both and, as with our friends in Malibu, it doesn’t feel as though all those years had passed since we were last together.

Shutters on the BeachI finally made it out to Los Angeles and Tony and I have had a glorious, heavenly and deliciously indulgent weekend at one of our all time favourite hotels.  Shutters on the Beach is situated at the end of Pico Blvd overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica and we have spent three days relaxing, sleeping, reading, watching movies and sun bathing.

There is something magical about this place for us as we spent many happy hours here when Tony was filming Buffy.  From our room we can see the Santa Monica pier where we would take our daughters after school and we would often meet friends for breakfast in the outdoor dining area or stop in for lunch after cycling or roller blading along the board walk.

Santa Monica Pier

Santa Monica is busier than I remember but it really hasn’t changed that much which isTaken from the terrace at Shutters refreshing as it can be a mistake to revisit somewhere that was such an integral part of your life for so long.  We have spent the early evenings sitting out on the terrace watching pelicans diving into the ocean as we used to over ten years ago and I can’t believe that time has passed so quickly.

We are heading up to Beverley Hills later this morning as Tony is involved in a press event organised by NBC.  We have a red carpet event to attend tonight then will escape the heat of Beverley Hills to head back down to Santa Monica tomorrow.   We need to start the search for a house to rent but I have every faith the right place will come along and for now I am looking forward to doing absolutely nothing!
