Nooooooo - our 26 year old gold fish died today. Given our year I am somehow not surprised but it is SAD. On a happier note our adolescent Maremma Léo was perfect today. Very mature in his behaviour and he did not lunge or bark once at any of the horses today as we walked around the fields. His recall was excellent too although a little casual at times but today it is hot and I will allow that although he did forfeit his sausages and had a big fuss instead when he finally made it up the hill. He was sharper the second time. Good Boy.
Barney our lovely livery has been totally brilliant too. We have only had three difficult days with him since he came to Tilley Farm and although he is a very sensitive horse he has changed beyond measure and has really progressed. He is developing good muscle and has worked over and through all manner of obstacles on the ground. He will be filmed for the last time on Monday for the One Show and we are praying that he stays as calm as he has been for the last few days. I have taken some pictures of him today but won’t post them on the website until the show has aired. If we have bad weather we may have to rethink what we will show everyone on Monday as he can become a little unsettled in the wind and the rain. Please everyone cross everything that you can physically cross for sun, sun, sun.
We have a new addition to the farm. His name is Rusty and he is just divine. The sweetest little strawberry roan pony you could ever wish to meet. A star and I am so glad that I found him on the internet. The moment I saw him I just knew he was ours. I bought him for Shelley’s daughter, Maisie and Magg’s daughter, Rachel. Shelley has worked with me for over fifteen years and Tony and I adore her and her family. Mags has worked here for the past four years and we adore her and her family too! Maisie and Rachel have not stopped smiling since he arrived and he has been ridden up around the fields taking all the new sights in his stride. A truly perfect pony who adores all the fuss that is being lavished upon him. I drove up to Buckinghamshire last week to see him and although he is eighteen years old I could not find any issues in his body at all save for a slight stiffening in the hocks which I would expect. The vet too was amazed at his condition and he arrived here last Saturday (the pony not the vet although from what I hear I wouldn’t mind if he had moved in as well!) and we are all thrilled. Both children are horse mad and I wanted to give them something special as I really value the work that Shelley and Mags do for us here at Tilley Farm and the girls spend the summer holidays and weekends up at the yard. Tony and I are looking forward to the fancy dress class at the local horse show as Rusty came with a brilliant cow costume. Will definitely post pictures of that! So. There is still much merriment to be had and although we are about to lose another close friend we are enjoying all the good things that we have in our lives and as Tony is now on a break from filming we may actually be able to spend more time together as a family. Tra la.
